Game-based Language Enhancement

Game based learning is a powerful tool in empowering students to take charge of their own learning. These games provide learners with a platform to apply the subject matter of the content to real world context.

Classroom Jeopardy! a portable version of America’s favorite and longest running game show Jeopardy!, is a popular educational tool with teachers and educationalists around the world. The game features a quiz competition in which contestants are presented with general knowledge clues in the form of answers and must phrase their responses in question form.

AAMF Foundation uses Classroom Jeopardy! as a English language acquisition tool to make learning interactive and fun. We have adapted the game to our own unique needs, making it an integral part of its curriculum. Students at each center play the game once every two weeks to enhance their ability to think and express themselves in English. Questions/clues are designed by our Jeopardy game coordinator using the in-house curriculum as the basis and students are encouraged to answer them in English. The rules of the game have been redesigned to encourage students to express a full thought, hold discussions amongst themselves before answering the question, provide clarifications and to encourage team participation.
